Description

NGC 4449 is the galaxy at the bottom center of this image. It is an irregular (Magellanic variety), barred galaxy (IBm). The upper part of the image shows a few other galaxies, notably NGC 4460, a barred edge-on spiral (SB0^+(s); UGC 7617 , a late stage edge-on spiral (Sd); and UGC 7593 which is really a merging pair of Sa type galaxies. There are a few Quasar objects ranging in redshift from 0.55179 to 2.00547. There is also a very low surface brightness galaxy just to the lower left of NGC 4449. The full size image has an image scale of 1.70 arcsec/pixel and shows the structure of these and a few other galaxies. NGC 4449 is about is about 13.1 million light years distant. These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.
