Description

A prime-focus image with an exposure of 1/200th of a second at ISO 200. Not really much to see here in terms of craters.

Since the moon gets progressively lower in the sky before dawn each morning as the crescent wanes toward new moon, the air turbulence (seeing) gets increasingly punishing. Putting an eyepiece in the scope revealed just how much detail was being lost in the photo due mostly to air turbulence but also shutter shock in the camera (but not mirror slap, which I avoid). The roiling of the atmosphere was obvious.

The Meade MTS-SN6 is a 6-inch f/5 Schmidt-Newtonian telescope from the 1980's.
