Description

The Ocean of Storms (Oceanus Procellarum), the largest lunar sea, here plunged into darkness, is a basin that has been the subject of laser measurements thanks to an altimeter deposited by the Apollo 15 mission. It was determined that the gradients did not exceed 80 m within a 200 km radius.

In contrast, the Sea of Rains (Mare Insularum) is the place where the clear trails of the radiant systems of Copernicus (crater not visible here) and Kepler intersect.

This area is also characterized by the presence of the most spectacular set of lunar domes, indicated on the annotated version, especially north of Hortensius Crater and west of Milichius Crater (Milichius Pi). These typical lunar domes have a summit crater.

This view gives off a dramatic intensity by the contrast produced between the darkness and the light that amplifies the force of the reliefs.
