Description

While waiting night after night for the supernova remnant I'm imaging to clear the trees, I imaged southern Cepheus with a 180mm telephoto lens just to have something to do. Turned out pretty good in it's own right. This is the main image;  the revision is annotated with the various Sharpless emission and Barnard dark nebulae.
Details:
Nikon 180mm telephoto at f/2.8
ZWO ASI6200MM-Pro
ZWO H-alpha and RGB filters
H-alpha: 24 x 10 minutes
R, G and B: 10 x 30 seconds each

I processed this a little differently than ever before. For the nebulae, I created a blank RGB document in Photoshop. After removing the stars from my monochrome H-alpha image, I pasted it into the red channel of the new document at 80% opacity, pasted it again into the green channel at 5% opacity, and one last time into the blue channel at 15% opacity. I think it gave me much better color than just adding the H-a data to the red channel. After combining the RGB star data, I isolated the narrowband star data using the difference between the original H-a file and the starless one, then used this as a luminance channel for the stars. This tightened them up nicely. The star file was then laid on top of the H-a file using Linear Dodge blending mode.

If anybody knows the identity of the dark nebulae towards the lower center of the image, I'd love to hear from you!
