Description

This was my secondary target in the same sessions where M42 was the primary. I acquired fewer images but continued through March.

Description: I reprocessed the data non-linearly, letting the raw converter do the heavy lifting and produce high-quality 16-bit TIF subs. Integrated with Astropixel Processor. Post processing with APP, PixInsight and Darktable.

I think the result speaks for itself.

Rawtherapee:
-Application of Bad Pixel Map (no darks used)
-AMAZE+VNC4 debayering, with 1 step false color suppresion.
-Automatic hot pixel correction
-Defringe
-Raw sharpening
-Denoise
-Vignetting Correction (no flats used)
-RGB curves, Black Point + Exposure Compensation adjustment to bring all channels on all subs to the same zero point at the left 1/3rd of the histogram.
-Highlight Reconstruction
-HIghlight Compression
-Application of D7500 color presets and Rec2020 working/output space
-Daylight Colour Balance
-Export as 16bit TIF

Astropixel Processor
-Register and stack the TIFs without any kind of normalization (local or global), no darks, no flats, no nothing. The price to pay for the lack of normalisation is images with different rotations/different nights will never blend 100% well and you lose a lot of data at the edges, but the center gets incredibly bright and vivid colours + detail.
-Crop, light pollution removal. (APP has a far superior LPR tool)

Pixinsight
-Solve, apply photometric color calibration using G2V (Sun) as the white reference
-SCDNR (remove excess green)

App again
-DDP + Stretch

Pixinsight again:
-ACDNR
-Deconvolution (yes. On the non-linear image)
-HDRMultiscaleTransform for dynamic range boost

Darktable
-Moderate emperature adjustment to compensate for all the intermediate steps
-Moderate noise reduction
-Black point + Levels adjustment
-Slight saturation boost
-watermark
-export to JPEG
