Description

WOW!! I actually got 3 clear nights in a row and got to take my own data (granted it's not nearly as good as DSW) but, hey, it's my own stuff!! This is M 51, also known as the Whirlpool Galaxy. It's located in the constellation Canes Venatici at an approximate distance of 31,000,000 light-years from Earth. The Whirlpool Galaxy is interacting with the galaxy NGC 5195 which is passing behind M 51, and some believe this is why the spiral arms of M 51 are so prominent.

This isn't Hubble quality but considering I shot it with my NP127is/ASI6200MM.....it's not too big in the FOV, so this image is REALLY cropped!!
