Description

This object is a tiny planetary nebula located 12,000 light years away in the constellation of Aquila at a declination of 0 degrees. This magnitude 10 object spans only 8 arc-seconds in our apparent view and is the smallest deep sky object that I have ever attempted to image. It is about 0.5 light years in diameter.

The PN has a bright rim and a cyan color, but few other details are apparent in such a small distant object. This object is nicknamed the Phantom Streak Nebula. I have been unable to discover the origin of that odd nickname.

If for some strange reason you enjoy these types of objects, take a look at my tiny PN collection.
