Description

What's not to love about M27? Granted that photographically it doesn't look much like a dumbbell (my spouse said it looked like cells dividing so maybe it could be the Mitosis Nebula!). My goal for this picture was to show those faint outer fringes without blowing out the detail at the center. I succeeded there but the cost was hurting contrast at the center. I did as much as I could figure out to bring that back but in this image it's the outer edges that are the real focus of my processing.

H and O:
dynamic crop
deconvolution
noiseXterminator
GHS (2 stretches)
starnt2 (saving stars)
histogram transformation to enhane individual contrast a bit

stars:
channel combination (HOO)
morphological transformation erosion
unsharp mask

HOO:
channel combination (hoo)
histogram (to align peaks)
LHE (2 scales)
Curves (color, saturation, a, b, RGB)
noiseXterminator
HDRMT
MLT (sharpening)
pixel math in stars

Overall I was pretty happy with this. The number of distinct shells of gas is amazing to see and the way the hydrogen and oxygen seem to be in layers is fascinating to behold.

Title: Reprocessed

Description: Since I did the earlier version I've become more adept with the GHS script and in getting better results out of HDRMT. Both of those made a big difference in getting details in the outer shell while preserving detail in the core.
