Description

NGC 6503, also known as the "Lost in Space" galaxy is a spiral in what is called the local void, an area of the sky which is fairly devoid of galaxies near the cluster of galaxies within which the Milky Way resides and it lies in the constellation of Draco. Some of us who are a bit older may conjure up images of the old series "Lost in Space" when hearing the moniker of this galaxy and think, "Danger, danger Will Robinson", but it is not named after the 1960's TV hit.

This galaxy is a magnitude 10.2 and is around 30,000 light years in diameter and 17 million light years away.
