Description

The Bright Core of the Bowtie is very hard to image and it ultimately took 15s, 60s and 300s subs with HDR Composition (after deconvolution of the 15s and 60s subs) to get a nice resolution of the core. After hours of processing to try to balance the features of the dispersed hydrogen and sulfur features with the bright nebula, I settled on a hybrid approach. After stretching the S,H,O frames, I did a 50/50 blend of the Ha and SII images and then created an (HS)OO with this blend. This strategy gave nice differentiation (with a minor hue adjustment) of the regions in the bowtie where SII was more intense than Ha and vice versa.  It also brought out the nice backdrop of OIII glow in the core. Do I wish I had data with better seeing and sharper focus?...YES! I'll be working on collimation and focus tuning this winter to see if I can improve those things at a sub-frame level. In any event, I am happy that I have some resolution of the core fo the nebula and have tamed the bright object into structures that are interesting to look at. Happy hunting this winter!
