Description

A demonstration of the lucky imaging technique we use to image the Sun, Moon and planets, to see the bottom of a terrestrial stream in NZ.

I took a video of this stream as it struck me trying to see the bottom of the river with the turbulent water flowing over the rocks was like a night of bad seeing looking at a solar system object. I processed it using the software I normally use for lunar and planetary imaging. Here you can see the final image against a still image from the video. Notice that even my shadow and the shadow of the slats on the bridge have become much clearer.

Ethan Chappel suggested this is a shadow transit and 'tis true, I only lingered moments to take it all in.

I think it gives a nice demonstration of the power of the modern lucky imaging technique.

As such I hope it qualifies to be on this site.
