Description

At the center of this image, this reflection nebula (vdB 19) and star cluster (IC 348) are located 1000 light years away in the constellation of Perseus at a declination of +32 degrees. The cluster contains about 400 stars, with 15 of these being larger than our sun. I like the blue, purple, magenta, and orange light shading throughout the image.

Just above this star forming region in the image is the bright 3.8 magnitude star Omicron Persei. The combination of this bright star with the dust throughout the area makes this area of the sky a challenge to image. I thought about moving the bright star off the image but I felt that I still wanted it in the frame, even though I knew it would be a pain in the end. Imaging this area with a wider field of view scope would have been much easier.
