Description

A decent long integration with a good resolution, comparing this image with the one taken with the same optics and the 385MC OSC camera on May 05 2021 one can realize first hand how a monochrome camera provides better resolution.

Also, without the need to keep color information, a Fringe Killer filter was used instead of the IR CUT one, reducing the chromatic aberration induced in the 0.5X focal reducer (a simple achromatic doublet) and hence producing smaller stars.

Small galaxies IC4278 and IC4277 can be seen close to M51: while IC4277 is about 15.3, according to Cartes du Ciel IC4278 has a magnitude of 17.79.

This may mean my night sky is a tad better than the 17.8 (taken from the Clear Outside app) that I usually quote in my picture info.

However it must be said I have had a couple of good days, with rain and wind in the day and calm clear skies (at least until clouds set in) at night.

I will use magnitude 18-Bortle 8 for my sky from now on.
