Description

Complete reprocess with Ha and RGB star data from my new Stellarvue SVX102T added to the image acquired in 2019. Boosted saturation and enhanced some of the dark nebula.

The Elephant Trunk nebula winds through the emission nebula and young star complex IC 1396 in the constellation Cepheus. The trunk is over 20 light years long and is located nearly 3000 light years away. Embedded, dark tendril-shaped clouds contain the raw material for star formation and hide protostars within the nebulosity.
