Description

Barnard 161 is a dark nebula right next to the Elephant's Trunk Nebula. It is located in this complex cloud of emission nebulae and dark nebulae, also known as IC1396. This object lies about 2'400 light years away from us and is located in the constellation Cepheus. Therefore IC 1396 is a popular target for astrophotographers in autumn and early winter.

I was inspired to take a picture of Barnard 161 by the fantastic shot of the Capella Observatory team. Please check out their picture and website.
