Description

I convinced the wife to let me buy Sequence Generator Pro! I promised her that with this awesome tool I would be more efficient and produce even better images. I hope she would agree that I achieved both

This is M77, a barred spiral galaxy 47 million light years away in the constellation Cetus. It is a beautiful galaxy in that it has a very bright, bold core with a very faint outer region. This provides for a very unique look and a tough (but not insurmountable) processing challenge. The HII regions near the core are clearly visible in this image as are the dark dust lanes. Once I started processing this one I was happily surprised to see that I had also captured NGC 1055 in the upper right of the frame which also has a gorgeous structure (especially at this angle).

I'm super happy with SGP because of it's ability to dither (which cut down significantly on noise) and it's ability to automate meridian flips (this was my first)! Perhaps most importantly, due to the added automation, I was able to give my son a bath, read him a bedtime story, and put him to bed while taking the subs for this image.. Happy wife, happy life ;)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
