Description

This is the brightest section of the Vela Supernova Remnant sometimes referred to as the "Crest & Bridge" section. The Supernova event is estimated to have occurred about 12,000 years ago, quite close to us at ~800 light years away. Gases in this image are ionised by the young (40 million year old) star e Velorum to the lower left of frame.

My wife insists that this image resembles The Incredible Hulk, hunched over walking to the left with gamma rays fuming from his head and muscular right arm. Can you see it?

She also asked if I could get it reclassified as the "Bruce Banner Nebula".
I told her I would try, but that it may take some time.

Thanks for looking, and CS.
