My goal was to capture these two iconic Messier Objects along with the rest of the M81 galaxy group and the IFN. When I zoomed in on the image, I counted 26 individual galaxies in this frame!!!!

This a was quick combination attempt at the end of several nights where I had finished imaging all my nebula projects for night.

I really was to try to bring out the interflux nebula at the cost of a very noisy image. The interflux nebula is a combination "high latitude" nebula or even intergalactic material above the central disc of the Milky Way. The dust is composed of mostly hydrogen and smaller portions of oxygen and carbon. The nebula is illuminated not by a star or a cluster of stars, but instead by the whole Milky Way. In attempting to bring out the IFN, it made the image incredibly noisy, but leaves room for much improvement.

In the future, I hope to add a lot of data to this group to increase signal to noise as well as possibly using HDR composition in pixinsight to take both medium length OSC and long length 6-8 min with the RASA to bring out the IFN.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
