Description

This object is a dim planetary nebula, also known as PN G089.8-00.6, located 6400 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +48 degrees. The PN spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a actual length of 6 light years. This object was included on Sharpless’ first (1953) catalog of emission nebula, but by the time of the second catalog (1959) this object was correctly identified as a planetary nebula so it was left out.

This object is a bi-polar nebula with mostly Ha signal except in the torus area, where there is almost an equal amount of OIII signal. The upper lobe appears fairly intact and has not yet broken through, but the ISM appears to be impacting the bottom lobe where some breakthrough is seen. Like M76, we are viewing this bi-polar nebula from a side-on view so that the bright equatorial torus is almost edge on to our view.
