Description

In early Fall the constellation of Cepheus rides high in the sky.  Within this constellation lies a vast area of interstellar dust and close to the middle there is a bright reflection nebula, six light-years across that resembles an Iris flower.  The foreground star that illuminates the nebula is a 7.4 magnitude star, just below the visual limit under dark clear skies. Here is my interpretation of this reflection nebula about 1300 light-years distant.
The image is composed of the primary color components (Red, Green, and Blue) and a Luminance component.
