Description

The SuperNova remnant in Vela is huge.  Eight degrees across huge.  My FOV, on the other hand, is a very not huge 30 arc minutes.  I would think it would take around 200 finished images to make full mosaic.  Well that's not going to happen so I decided to see if I could find an interesting portion worth of a close up view.

I chose to do this in SHO because the SII was quite strong and I wanted to use three colors to better differentiate the structures.  In addition to the wispy filaments, I'm interested in the sharply bumpy area in the lower left.  A fog of OIII seems to float above these sharp features of SII and Ha, possibly representing shock fronts.

The SHO mix is dynamic using a stretched OIII as a factor to determine the blend of S and H in the Red and Green channels.  The stars are pure RGB.
