Description

I woke up at 4 am early this week. I had set the rasa8 to image the Seagull Nebula and then return back to the home position due to no specific targets to capture with the dual narrowband and 400 mm focal length. Upon waking and not being able to fall back asleep, I quickly checked if Cygnus was able to be seen. Sure enough, the crescent was 10 to 15 degrees above the Eastern horizon. Here is my 1.5 hours of integration attempt with the 2600mc and the IDAS dual band filter. I cropped the final image due to what I think was the edge of small branches on the top right corner of the image causing distortion.

The Crescent Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation of Cygnus. The center star is a super hot Wolf-Rayet star that is shedding a sun mass of every material every 10K years in solar winds that is colliding with outer envelope of the star when it became a red giant. The solar winds compress the gas and cause it to emit the colored nebula we can visualize. The nebula is in our own Milky Way about 4.8K light years away. The nebula itself measures an estimated 25 light years across.
