Description

Yesterday I pointed my telescope in the direction of a very interesting region of the sun near the limb. Indeed, the sunspot region 3415 illustrates the rich anatomy of the Sun's photosphere. My Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope in association with a camera ASI385MC, a Barlow lens x2.5 and the Baader continuum filter 7.5nm has capture a large sunspot splitting phase surrounded by faculae. The faculae constitues the bright regions produced by concentrations of magnetic field lines. Close to the limb, one can observe a general flattening of the whole sunspot structure, starting to discern a faint Wilson effect. Closer to center, the so-called granules convection cells caused by the convection currents of plasma in the Sun's convective zone, directly below the photosphere become more and more visible.
