Description

=_aacl _aaco _aacu _aacx _aad7 _aadeOn August 23rd I traveled to Salt Lake, 130 km away from my home in Ankara, to shoot Comet Nishimura, but earlier in the evening I pointed my telescope to COMET C/2023 E1 (ATLAS) near Cygnus Constellation.

C/2023 E1 (ATLAS) is a periodic comet with an orbital period of 85 years. It fits the classical definition of a Halley-type comet with (20 years < period < 200 years). The comet was discovered on 1 March 2023 by ATLAS South Africa. Upon discovery, the comet had an apparent magnitude of about 19 and had a very condensed coma. Soon, the comet was found in images obtained by other observatories back to 25 December 2022.
