Description

The Tadpole nebula lies in a dusty region of the constellation Auriga, about 12,000 light years from Earth.  The tadpoles themselves are about 10 light years long, and are formed by stellar winds, or streams of ionized gases emanating from a nearby open star cluster, NCG 1893, at the center of the nebula. The dense streams of material forming the tadpoles are thought to be sites of ongoing star formation, similar to the Pillars of Creation.
