Description

While imaging this nebula, I had read how it is nearly perfectly spherical and tiny. That is very apparent in my data. Its a perfectly round dot in space - just like a tiny button. Details in the central region are impossible to resolve with my current setup, but the outer portion does have some variation in the OIII and Ha data which I tried to preserve in the final image.

This nebula has two shells. The brighter inner shell is only 6″ in diameter. The outer shell is 18″ across and was easy to capture despite its lower surface brightness. The central star is magnitude 12.3.

The Lemon Slice Nebula is about 4,500 light-years away, with a diameter of 0.4 light-year. It is small compared to other planetary nebulae, but is huge compared to something like our solar system. It is the northern most planetary nebula in the sky at a declination of 82.5 degrees.
