Description

This is my fist  MP4 video of sunspots. Hopefully all will go well.

On April 30, 2024 there was an area of sunspots heading towards the limb of the sun. The entire area was active with small eruptions/flares. I was able to follow this region for almost eight hours, even though the seeing seriously deteriorated after a couple of hours. But in the end I was able to align to the sunspots and produce this video.

When you start the video, there are two banners with a static background. This takes six seconds. Then the sunspot animation begins. The video plays once and then you click on the video to play again, unlike the animated gifs which play over and over. Not sure this MP4 is better than a gif, it's an experiment.

Watch for the small flares popping up all over the region and for the quick loops at the end of the video. You probably have to watch the video a few times to see all the events. There is a lot going on. Sorry for the poor quality at the end. Seeing was really bad. I just didn't want to stop and miss a dramatic event. But I did anyway. I read later that this region erupted in a large flare just as it reached the limb and after I stopped imaging (of course). Here is the link to that event (https://www.space.com/near-x-class-solar-flare-april-30-2024-video).

I aligned to the sunspots in the animation. Notice how the limb of the sun moves closer to the sunspot area. Or more correctly, how the sunspots are moving closed to the limb during the eight hours they were followed. Yes, the sun does rotate.

Enjoy and comments welcome of course.
