Description

Undoubtedly the most festive target in the night sky, the Christmas Tree Cluster is a young triangular-shaped open cluster of stars in the constellation Monoceros (the Unicorn).

Located at a distance of around 2,600 light-years from Earth, the Christmas Tree Cluster forms part of the larger NGC2264 region which also includes the Cone Nebula, Snowflake Cluster and Fox Fur Nebula.

Captured from the backyard in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia this image comprises almost 9 hours of total integration using a combination of Ha, Sii and Oiii filters.
