Description

Well, this was a project!  Stretching from the beginning of November until now since the observation window for this target is limited for me to 3 hours maximum per night. And it points directly into the most light polluted area of the sky (Walmart, gas stations, etc.). Hence, I knew that I had to get more integration time than maybe usual for other targets. 

I started up with the flattener, gathered as many hours as I could. I was happy that the whole nebula fit into the frame, but I was also interested in getting my reducer ready and get some images with this one. 

And additionally, Jeff was so nice to provide his data of the same target!! 

I do not believe that I had that many windows open in PI ever, and that many directories as well. The shots were taken with different cooling temperatures, hence I had to integrate first set by set, and then take the calibrated images to stack them all together. 

The ultimate goal will be to integrate Jeff's images into the same stack! This requires that I have to save his data in the same format as my images, not sure if this will work, but I certainly will give it a try. One thing for sure, Jeff did a tremendous job to process his data, please take a moment and visit his result at: Dolphin of the South ( Jeff Coldrey ) - AstroBin
I processed his data and I certainly can judge how well he did this! 

Version C is the result that I obtained together with his data, not stacked, but using a lot of his data to emphasize my data! Especially his OIII data are wonderful, Version D shows a comparison between his and mine. I am pretty sure that my data are so weak because of the light pollution and the position in the sky (much lower), what a treat that Jeff gave me there! I don't think that I gave enough credit to his data, it was pretty complicated to combine the data, and I am pretty sure that I can spend much more time on this. But the idea to stack them together with my data triggers more curiosity in me, hence I will try this next.

Although the wide field does not show the details of the nebula itself, it is definitely my favorite of the series; it has almost a 3D effect. One can also see some wispy clouds of OIII around the nebula, I am not 100% sure if this is not an artifact of the OIII filter and my processing, or if those are indeed real.
Interesting processing fact: I stacked the raw images taken with the flattener and the reducer together, that worked wonderfully! There was of course a slight gradient in the image because of that, which took me around 2 hours (minimum) to get rid of. 

One disappointing part: The Hα addition did not give much, although there is some in it (at the edge). But I was not able to really show it since the OIII signal is so much stronger.

This is one of my most favorite targets in the sky, and I never really went for it since the ASI1600 left such bad diffraction patterns around the bright star that it was not possible to create a nice enough image (I will need to dig into my old data and attach a version of this one, horrible). The 6200 also shows some halos, but they are caused by the OIII filter. As we all know, they do tend to create those.

Total processing time ... more than then integration time of 23 hours ... that was a tough one.

Title: Complete integration of Jeff's OIII data

Description: I was able to stack all OIII images taken by Jeff and myself (flattener and reducer) after I adjusted Jeff's images to the 6200 resolution via Star Align. The resulting OIII image was then integrated with the rest of the previous image. I believe that it emphasizes the nebula a tick better 😊.
