Description

Trick or treat! Here is an appropriate astropicture for Halloween, the Witch Head Nebula.
IC 2118, aka the Witch Head Nebula, is an extremely faint reflection nebula believed to be an ancient supernova remnant or gas cloud illuminated by nearby supergiant star Rigel in the constellation of Orion. It lies in the Eridanus constellation, about 900 light-years from Earth.

Image acquired with the Takahashi FSQ-106ED refractor and FLI PL16803 camera from Telescope Live in Heaven's Mirror Observatory, Australia.
Total exposure time 26 minutes. LRGB 8:6:6:6 in subs of 600s (for each subframe, filter).
