Description

The Christmas Tree Cluster is the bright, open cluster of stars in the center of the image. It sits in a region of emission nebulosity, which includes the famous Cone Nebula towards the bottom. These objects are located in the Monoceros constellation and are located about 2,300 light-years from Earth.

Preprocessing in PI:
- WBPP for calibration, cosmetization and debayaring
- StarAlignment
- SubframeSelector to find best image by PSF signal and weight
- LocalNormalization using best image by PSF
- ImageIntegration using best image by weight as reference
- DrizzleIntegration using scale of 1 as anything else was generating artifacts in the stars

Processing in PI:
- DynamicCrop
- PixelMath to split into Ha and Oiii layers
- DBE
- LinearFit Oiii using Ha as reference
- EZ soft stretch
- PixelMath to combine into HOO image (stars)
- StarXterminator on Ha and Oiii - I've found I get cleaner images if I remove the stars before combining into a color image
- PixelMath to combine into HOO image (nebula)

Postprocessing stars:
- LRGBCombination using Ha as luminance
- TGVDenoise
- ACDNR
- CurvesTransformation
- StarXterminator
- SCNR

Postprocessing nebula:
- Extract luminance
- TGVDenoise, ACDNR, MLT and EZ HDR on luminance
- LRGBCombination using Ha as luminance
- CurvesTransformation
- LocalHistogramEqualization with RangeSelection masks
- DarkStructureEnhance
- PixelMath to stars back
- final CurvesTransformation
