Description

NGC 1851, a.k.a Cadwell 73, a globular cluster ~3950 light-years away in Columba. It is estimated to be ~782 light-years across, 9.2 billion years old, and ~510,000 times the mass of the Sun. One of the densest galactic globular clusters, with three different populations of stars. Home to several millisecond pulsars, the latest discoveries put it at 14, most of them having rotation periods below 30 milliseconds, and 8 of them are binary pulsars. It now has the third largest number of pulsars, tied with M82 in a cluster.

LRGB 13h 30m (21:20:20:20x600s) from CHI-1 Telescope, a Planewave CDK24 with FLI PL 9000 camera, and Astrodon 2nd GEN LRGB filters, situated in the Rio Hurtado Valley, Chile. Part of the telescope.live telescope network. Taken on multiple dates Jan-Nov 2022.
