Description

The Spaghetti Nebula, also known as IC 443, is a supernova remnant located in the constellation Gemini. It is one of the best-studied remnants of a supernova event in the Milky Way galaxy.IC 443 gets its nickname "Spaghetti Nebula" from its filamentary structure, which resembles strands of pasta. This structure is the result of shock waves from the supernova explosion interacting with surrounding interstellar material, causing it to heat up and emit radiation at various wavelengths, including visible light. The supernova that created IC 443 is estimated to have occurred about 3,000 to 30,000 years ago. It is believed that the progenitor star of this supernova was a massive star that exploded at the end of its life cycle. The remnant now spans approximately 50 light-years across.

My ASI Air app also thought that the 488 Kreusa asteroid was in this field of view - but I can't verify that. Kreusa is a C-type asteroid orbiting the Sun in the asteroid belt, with the type indicating a surface with a low albedo and high carbonaceous content. The spectra of the asteroid displays evidence of aqueous alteration. In 2002, Kreusa was detected by radar from the Arecibo Observatory at a distance of 1.67 AU. Discovered in 1902 by Max Wolf and Luigi Carnera.
