Description

Herschel's Pencil or NGC 2736 is an Emission Nebula in the constellation of Vela. They are the remnants of a huge Super Nova explosion, which took place some 11000 years ago. The object is only a small part of the extended GUM Nebula, which also resulted from several Super Nova explosions.The nebula bears the name of John Herschel, who discovered  the nebula during his stay in Cape Town.
