Description

The Angel Nebula is unique and strangely mesmerising with its mixed colourful nebulosity and meandering streams of dust. As most of the nebulosity is faint, dark skies or fast focal ratios are best to capture its beauty. Previous attempts from my suburban backyard have always fallen a bit short using an f7 120mm refractor. So as therapy, I have elected to process a small LRGB data set from the El Sauce Observatory kindly shared via the Telescope Live platform. Blended with backyard captured Ha (Esprit 120, ASI2600mm, Optolong 7nm).

Location: Río Hurtado valley in Chile, elevation 1525m
Telescope: 50-cm F3.8 corrected ASA 500N Newtonian.
Camera: FLI PL 16803 (4096x4096, 9um pixels)
Filters: Astrodon LRGB 2Gen

LRGB Acquisition: 26 March 2022 (80 minutes)
Lum 2 x 600sec
Red 2 x 600sec
Green 2 x 600sec
Blue 2 x 600sec

Ha Aquisition: 18 December 2023 (70 minutes)
Ha 7 x 600sec

The FOV should suit the ASI2600 / Quattro f4 combo, so I have my fingers crossed for good weather in Nov/Dec. Should be enough time for me to work up the courage finally complete another full backyard version!
