Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a edge-on spiral galaxy located 65 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -8 degrees.  It spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 60,000 light years.

Being so “close”, we are able to see blue star clouds throughout the disk.  No dust bands are visible and, though designated as a spiral, it looks more like an irregular galaxy to me.  Based on the blue color, this appears to be a young galaxy.

The pretty galaxy at lower right is NGC 1108.
