Description

Abell 21 is also know by the common name Medusa Nebula due to the impression of the snake-like structures in the filaments. It is located in the constellation Gemini and is also catalogued as Sharpless 2-274. It is considered an "old planetary nebula" but was originally thought to be a supernova remnant. It was originally discovered by George Abell in 1955 and has a very low surface brightness.
This image is a standard Hubble SHO palette as was taken with my AGOptical iDK 14.5" scope from my backyard roll-off observatory.
