Description

Working my way through a bucket list of splendid Southern Hemisphere objects - Here is 47 Tucanae, a stunner of a globular cluster with its tightly packed core and smattering of red giant stars - hundreds of thousands of stars crammed into a volume only 120 light years across and second only to Omega Centauri in brightness. 47Tuc is close to (but not associated with) the Small Magellanic Cloud. It's an easy naked eye object under dark skies and a superb object viewed through a large dob (which is what was going on whilst making this image...).
