Description

I am from Charlotte, NC. I got the news on Friday around 3pm about the potential for the storm, and immediately starting my plan. I went to lightpollutionmap.info and in combination with Google Earth Pro (desktop) located a very nice Bortle 3 site at 3000ft elevation that would provide about as good as a view as I could possibly get within a 3 hour drive. Me and a friend left right after work. When we first arrived, it was so dark it took me a few minutes to find constellations I coudl regognize. It's always an amazing feeling to me when i can't find most contellations. I always just do a circle looking for Ursa Major when this happens, as he just can't hide! Anyway, after I got the camera setup, things REALLY started popping off. It was incredible. Reds, Purples, Blues, Greens. At one point, there was a giant blue streak over our heads that started waving back and forth, almost like a snake.

I've  been dreaming of seeing the Aurora Borealis for as long as I can remember. This night will remain as one of the most special memories i'll ever have. The photos? Just the icing on top.

Shot on Canon R7, 10 second exposure, ISO400, using a TTArtisan 11mm fisheye lens @F2.8. If you don't have a TTArtisan lens, I love them. Great for shots like this in AP, and Milky Way, but extremely affordable.
