Description

The planetary nebula Abell 33 is located in Hydra and lies at a distance of about 2700 light years and is about 4.5 arcminutes in diameter. It is notable for the 7th magnitude star that appears superimposed on it's edge, giving it the name "diamond ring" nebula. Emissions are almost entirely O3 hence the teal color. Although not visible on most images of Abell 33, I was able to resolve that the central star is either a visual or an actual double with the secondary "central" star having a slightly reddish color.

Taken over 11 nights from March 17th to April 10th, 2024 from SkiesAway Observatory.
