Description

The nebula was formed about 70,000 years ago by the Wolf–Rayet star EZ Canis Majoris throwing off its outer hydrogen layers, revealing inner layers of heavier elements.=10.5px Fast stellar winds, blowing at 3.8 million mph ( now that's fast! ) from this star, create the bubble-shaped nebula as they sweep up slower moving material from an earlier phase of the star's evolution. The hydrogen composing the nebula is ionised by intense ultraviolet radiation. The nebula is approximately 60 light-years across at its widest point.
There's the science stuff that I copied and pasted from the internet. Very interesting, but on a bit more of a personal note... This has always been one of my favorite nebula. The colors, shape, details in the "head" have always intrigued me. Something so incredibly huge, caused by something so powerful, to create something so elegant and beautiful. It's just staggering... for a lack of a better expression. It amazes me that these lie in the night sky waiting for us to gaze  upon them, to capture the photons and share with our family, friends, and astro community. So here it is, I share this with you.
I collected around 30 hrs. of data with this image, yet was only able to use around 9 hrs. The weather has been very trying lately to say the least. A combo of wind, clouds, and the neighborhood lights as this target is quite low brought the numbers down quite a bit. I want to add a lot more data including LRGB to this. Unless the weather makes a drastic turn, it will have to wait until next time.
