Description

I was very taken with @Peter Butler’s recent image of this glorious globular and open cluster in Coma Berenices. A much nicer framing and rich colour make all the difference.

I’ve been experimenting with my 183M CMOS camera at a longer focal length, and thought I’d have a go at these clusters last Thursday night - alas cut short by cloud, only managing 34’ integration.

What I like - the framing (just), the contrast between these clusters, and the sensitivity of this mono camera. What I don’t like - the persistent clouds, the elongated stars  (guiding or something in the optical train), and the short integration.

Still having problems with my calibration frames - Siril refused to stack these, and I turned to trusty Nebulosity to get the job done, albeit imperfectly.  The elongated stars may be due to deviation between main and guide camera.

Rev A is the stacked image put through GraXpert background extraction and denoise, with dewarp applied to the majority of stars in Startool. Rev B (mouseover) the original with no dewarp applied.

Anyway I’ve decided to post as no sign of clear skies ahead, and all part of my imaging experience and Astrobin journal.
