Description

How many names can you give the same galaxy?…. NGC 253, Sculptor galaxy, Starburst galaxy, Silver Dollar galaxy, Silver Coin galaxy… all are names for this beautiful dusty galaxy in the constellation of Sculptor. Located about 11.4 million light years away, the galaxy can easily be observed by small binoculars or telescopes. It is going through a period of intense star formation and experiencing an exceptionally high rate of star forming activity compared to most other galaxies. The current high rate of star formation has earned the galaxy the designation of a starburst galaxy.
