Description

While imaging after a storm in January the Robodome froze in the open position. Foolishly I attempted to close the dome after a long night of imaging, rather than wait for the morning warmer temps to thaw things a bit. This resulted in destroying the linear gear that closes the shutter, and  leaving the dome open and instruments exposed to another oncoming winter storm. In a panic I called Martin, my neighbor and contractor who was able to go over and assist in closing the shutter. While I gave the remote close command he lifted the shutter and the dome closed. The storm arrived and dumped about 3' of snow.

This would have done significant damage if the shutter hadn't been closed.

Turns out the Robodome has been discontinued and they didn't have replacement gears in stock. They did have pieces of the gears, so they sent me what they had.

It is now May and the weather has warmed enough to do the repairs and have the adhesive set on the pieced together gear. So I went up this weekend and did the repairs...

This image is in celebration of getting this instrument back up and running...
