Description

Messier 83 (NGC5236) is a barred spiral galaxy that appears 15 million light years away in the constellation of Hydra. M83 is a bright, easily visible galaxy, and it crosses the sky relatively high in the New Zealand autumn. M83 is a member of the Centaurus A/M83 Group of galaxies, which includes a number of 'close', bright galaxies located across Hydra, Centaurus, and Virgo.  Fainter background galaxies appear in the image, including PGC48132 to the top right of M83.

This was an experimental capture, with just over three hours using my 8se, which is not normally used/known for imaging. Conditions were poor on the second day with high cloud, but nevertheless, the 8se brought out some nice detail in the cropped image.
