Description

The galaxy is surrounded by a hazy shell of stars/matter probably torn away from another galaxy or galaxies that merged with NGC 3521 some time in the past. Classified as a Flocculent Spiral galaxy. Magnitude 11, about 30 million ly distant and moving away from us at 2.88 million km/hr. 25 hours with my Beamtech CDK250 Corrected Dall Kirkham scope on my 10Micron GM1000 HPS mount. Only filter used was the ZWO ASI2600MC Pro camera's built in IR cut filter. Image capture and mount/focuser/camera control with a ZWO Asiair Plus device. A backyard capture under our darkish (Bortle 2/3) rural sky in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand over the last 3 weeks. Stacked with Astro Pixel Processor and Processed in Pixinsight.
