Description

I've made an Astrobin account! I've long considered Astrobin to be the place for some of the best astrophotography around, so I hope what I bring to the table is worthy. I've been at this now for nearly 10 years, but I attribute my interest as forming decades ago, during a lunar eclipse when my neighbors set up a small telescope and let me look through it when I was a small child.

The bug wouldn't go away, and in my 30's I bought a used Bird-Jones Newtonian. I learned everything I could about how to use it, and soon I was taking video of Jupiter via a cheap cell phone adapter. I bought a RA motor right away and was tracking objects reliably. I didn't know a lot about what I was doing, but I seemed to be taking to it, if a little awkwardly at times.

But by September of 2015 I felt I knew enough to try to take some pictures of the Supermoon Lunar Eclipse. I drove out to a small local hill and set up with other astronomers. My wife drove out later with my son, and I took my pictures. I love how this one really shows off the different colors. I showed them around and got a lot of positive encouragement. I was having fun and this seemed like a hobby worth sinking my teeth into.
