Description

NGC 2174 is known as the Monkey Head Nebula, but all I see is 1977 Elvis. You doubt? Google it. Still not convinced? Look again. The red/orange at the top is his hair, the blue region is his face looking to our left, and the purplish tones at the bottom mark the open "V" collar of a poorly fitting jumpsuit. At the left you even see his hand holding a microphone. 1977 Elvis. This hunka hunka burnin' love is an emission nebula of wispy, turbulent gas and dust clouds — chaos enveloping a twinkling stellar nursery. It is in the constellation Orion about 6,500 light-years away.

Not my circus. Not my monkey. Instead, I give you 1977 Elvis. You doubt? Google it. I'll wait. Still not convinced? Look carefully. The red/orange at the top is his hair, blue is his face looking to our left, and the purplish tones at the bottom mark the open "V" collar of a poorly fitting jumpsuit. At the left you even see his hand holding a microphone. 1977 Elvis. Without a doubt.
