Description

3.50 h HA, 3.5 h O3 and 3h SII images taken using a mono camera were combined into a narrowband SHO image of NGC7830 at F 5.0, f = 1000 mm. The NB image was built using PI pixmath after first removing stars with starXterminator 2.05. Hue adjustment and exponential stretch in PixInsight. A starmask was also taken from a 2.5 h OSC camera image taken through a UHC filter. At the end RGB stars were blended back into the image using Pixmath. Capture was with Sharpcap and preprocessing plus processing (background removal, noise reduction, photometric colour calibration and curves) was carried out using PixInsight.

The RGBOO(SH) and RGBSHO images of NGC7830 are from the same data set. processed using RC-Astro BlurXt on the NB images and also NoiseXt at a low setting

The RGB OOH is perhaps slightly better and chosen here as the final image.

The SHO image shows HA throughout, yellow orange S+ forbidden transitions at the proximal ionisation edge, cyan where O2+ transitions underly the HA and a deeper blue where the HA is less strong.  The nebula is about 5000 light years distant. The hot star mainly responsible for  ionizing  the nebula and the approximate focal point of the central OIII  region is HD 215835 (DH Cepheus) a  type O(5.5) star - also ~ 5000 light years distant according to Hipparcos2 and visible as the brightest star in the central star cluster and near the wizard's  hand.
