Description

The Crab Nebula is the remnant of a supernova (6500 lightyears from us) that was observed by Chinese astronomers in 1054. Almost 1000 years later, this has produced a filamented cloud of gases and dust, 11 lightyears across. As we speak, the cloud expands at about 1500 kilometers per second. The remaining neutron star spins 30 times per second.Due to the near-full moon, I decided to shoot the object in Ha. I usually bin my images 2x2. However, since the seeing was excellent, I decided to go for 1x1 (giving a pixel scale of 0.96"/px). The image was then drizzled (2x).
